Description:

This learning program is designed to introduce a type of leukemia known as acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or acute lymphocytic leukemia, also referred to as ALL. ALL is caused by the rapid overproduction of lymphoblasts, which are immature white blood cells from the lymphoid lineage. This learning program first covers the epidemiology of ALL. The pathophysiology, diagnosis, staging, and prognosis of the disease are then reviewed.

Upon completion of this learning program, you will be able to:

  • Recall the epidemiology data for ALL.
  • List the risk factors for ALL.
  • Explain how ALL cells develop and how DNA alterations can lead to ALL.
  • List the symptoms of ALL.
  • Describe the tests and techniques used for the diagnosis of ALL.
  • Recall the systems used in the staging of ALL.
  • List the prognostic factors for ALL.
