Description:

The human body is composed of nearly 100 trillion cells, which can be classified into about 200 different cell types that can vary considerably in size and shape and that fulfill specific functions. Nevertheless, all cells arose from the division of existing cells, and therefore contain the same genetic information. Also, all cells share similar key structures and functions necessary for their activity. This learning program is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of cell biology. The program begins with an overview of the main structural parts of a cell. You will learn about specific cellular components and their functions. You will then learn about the life cycle of a cell from cell division to cell death, and how this process is regulated. You will also learn about the structure of genetic material and about the key processes of molecular genetics.
