Description:

The Understanding the Anatomy of the Respiratory System learning program is designed as an introduction to the main structural features of the system that transfers oxygen from the external environment to the blood when we breathe. The program begins with an overview of the structures of the upper and lower respiratory system, including the nose, trachea, and lungs. It then explores the many specialized cells that line the different regions of the bronchi and the lungs. The program concludes with a description of the main blood vessels that supply the lungs and facilitate the transport of oxygen to other tissues of the body.

Upon completion of this learning program, you will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the major structures of the upper respiratory tract.
  • Identify and describe the major structures of the lower respiratory tract.
  • Describe the airways and muscles of respiration.
  • Describe the major histological components of the respiratory system.
  • Describe the blood supply of the respiratory system.
